The Latin cross, worn plainly
The Latin cross has a long lower arm and three shorter ones, the shape Western Christians have traditionally given to the cross of Calvary. It became common in public art only after the Emperor Constantine in the fourth century; before that, believers often preferred the fish or the anchor.
