The Latin cross and its long lower arm
Christian tradition knows two basic cross shapes. The Greek cross has four equal arms and is common in Eastern churches. The Latin cross has a longer lower arm, like a cross planted in the ground, and it is the form most Western Christians picture when they think of Calvary.
