The Miraculous Medal
In 1830, at the Rue du Bac in Paris, Mary showed Saint Catherine Labouré the design of this medal and asked that it be struck. The front shows Mary with rays of grace falling from her hands, encircled by the prayer O Mary conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee. The back carries the cross, the letter M and the hearts of Jesus and Mary, ringed by twelve stars. First struck in 1832, it took its popular name from the graces people reported. This oval medal in gold-plated stainless steel, 45 x 25 mm, shows both sides in relief on a 60 cm curb chain.
