The oldest gesture of the cross
Long before Christians wore crosses as jewelry, they made the sign of the cross on themselves. Around the year 204, the writer Tertullian described believers tracing a small cross on the forehead when they dressed, washed, ate or went to sleep. The gesture was small, personal and repeated many times a day. The larger sign, from forehead to chest and shoulder to shoulder, came later. A single small cross worn at the ear keeps something of that early scale. This one hangs from a hoop and comes in five polished finishes: silver, gold, rose gold, black or blue.
