The meaning
The symbol · Cross
Saint Michael, leader of the heavenly host
Saint Michael is the archangel who, in the Book of Revelation, leads the angels of God against the dragon. His name in Hebrew is a question: Who is like God? He is shown armed and winged, with a shield bearing the cross, and the Church invokes him as defender of the faithful.
Giving it as a gift
Often given to a son at his confirmation, to a husband in a demanding job, or to a friend facing a hard battle.
The prayer
Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly hosts, by the power of God, cast into hell Satan, and all the evil spirits, who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.
Prayer to Saint Michael, composed by Pope Leo XIII in 1886
