A cross joined to the medal of Saint Benedict, lit with small crystal accents and hung on a pearl chain. A traditional devotion, with a little light.

The Benedict medal at the crossing
Saint Benedict of Nursia lived in Italy around the year 500 and wrote the Rule that still guides Benedictine monks. The medal that bears his name carries Latin initials around a cross, abbreviations of short prayers asking that the cross be a light and that evil keep its distance. Their meaning was explained by a manuscript from 1415 kept at Metten Abbey in Bavaria, and the medal spread widely from there. Catholics wear it to ask for God's protection over home, work and travel. This necklace sets the medal at the crossing of a cross lit with small crystal accents, on a pearl chain in silver or gold tone.
Giving it as a gift
A godparent might choose it for a goddaughter's confirmation, or for someone moving into a first home. It is also a warm Christmas gift for a believer who already knows the Benedict medal and would like it on a cross.
The prayer
Crux sacra sit mihi lux. Non draco sit mihi dux. (May the holy cross be my light. Let not the dragon be my guide.)
Latin verses on the Saint Benedict medal, found in a 1415 manuscript at Metten Abbey, Bavaria

The meaning
