Wood, INRI and Saint Benedict
This rosary brings together two old Catholic devotions. The beads count the prayers of the rosary, mostly Hail Marys, said while meditating on the Gospel. The medal belongs to Saint Benedict, the sixth-century monk whose Rule shaped monastic life in the West, and it carries Latin initials asking the cross to be a light. On the crucifix you can read INRI, the initials of the Latin title Pilate placed above Jesus, naming him King of the Jews. The beads are natural wood, separated by metal spacers, and the rosary measures 49 cm. Some Catholics prefer to keep it by the bed or in a pocket rather than wear it.
Giving it as a gift
A first rosary for a godchild at first communion, or a confirmation gift for a teenager who has taken Saint Benedict as a confirmation saint. At Easter, it suits anyone who prays with beads.
The prayer
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

The meaning
