Saint Benedict on a wooden rosary
Saint Benedict, who died around 547 at Monte Cassino, wrote the Rule still followed by Benedictine monks. The medal named after him traditionally shows a cross bearing the letters CSSML and NDSMD, the initials of a Latin verse that ask the holy cross to shine as a light. The Church approved its use in the eighteenth century, and Catholics have joined it to many rosaries since. Here it sits beside a wooden crucifix of 5.5 by 3.5 cm, on a rosary of natural wood beads 59 cm around. You can choose black, light or natural wood, depending on the person.
