A deep-relief signet: Saint Michael, wings open and sword raised, standing over the fallen adversary. A sculpted rim surrounds the face, with crosses and feathers on the shoulders.
The meaning
The symbol · Cross
Saint Michael, prince of the heavenly host
Saint Michael is one of the archangels named in Scripture, in the Books of Daniel, Jude and Revelation. In Revelation he leads the angels against the dragon and casts him down, and Christian art has shown him ever since with wings open and sword raised. Soldiers, police officers and all who stand guard take him as their patron, and many Catholics say the prayer to Saint Michael written by Pope Leo XIII, asking him to defend us in battle. This deep-relief signet shows the archangel over the fallen adversary, with crosses and feathers on the shoulders, in antiqued stainless steel, US sizes 7 to 15.
Giving it as a gift
For a father on Father's Day, a soldier or first responder, or a young man taking Michael as his confirmation saint. A godparent can give it at confirmation or at Christmas.
The prayer
Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly hosts, by the power of God, cast into hell Satan, and all the evil spirits, who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.
Prayer to Saint Michael, composed by Pope Leo XIII in 1886
