The cross pattée of the military orders
The cross pattée has arms that are narrow at the center and flare out toward the ends. In the Middle Ages it was worn by several military orders founded during the Crusades, and the Knights Templar are the best known of them. Their members took religious vows and also served as soldiers, which is why the shape is still linked to faith joined with duty and loyalty. It later spread through heraldry across Europe.
