The man who carried the Christ child
Christopher's name comes from the Greek for Christ bearer. According to a well-known legend, he carried travelers across a dangerous river, and one night his small passenger grew so heavy that he seemed to bear the weight of the world: it was the Christ child. He became the patron of travelers, and drivers still ask for his protection on the road. His feast is no longer on the general Roman calendar, yet he remains a saint and his image is still widely worn. This ring shows him with staff and child on an oval medallion, against a textured ground, with a cross on the side of the band.
