Here the crucifix carries the Saint Benedict medal, with the cross and the letters C S P B, for Cross of the Holy Father Benedict, and the initials of his Latin prayer against evil, which begins Vade retro Satana. Catholics turn to it when they ask God's help against temptation. Hold the crucifix to begin, then let the 6 mm beads run between your fingers, one decade at a time. Most Catholics carry a rosary rather than wear it around the neck. The beads and the crucifix should stay dry: keep it away from water and perfume, and store it on its own so the enamel does not scratch.
