The crucifix shows Christ on the cross, the image of the Passion at the center of Catholic prayer. The plaque above him reads INRI, the Latin initials of Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews, the title Pilate had fixed to the cross (John 19:19). The rays behind the crossing are a traditional sign of glory.
