Measure at home in 2 minutes
You need a strip of paper (or a string or shoelace), a pen and a ruler.
- Take a string or a shoelace and mark on it the length you are considering, for example 50 cm.
- Hold the two marks together at the back of your neck, wearing the kind of top you usually wear.
- Look in a mirror: the lowest point of the string is where the chain will sit.
- Too high or too low? Try 5 cm more or less: that is one size up or down.
Already own a chain you like? Lay it flat, clasp closed, and measure it end to end. A broad neck or chest makes every length sit a little higher.
No ruler? A bank card is 8.6 cm long: count how many fit along your strip.

How to wear it
This is a pendant only, with no chain, so you can hang it on a chain you already own. At 49.5 x 54.5 mm and 28.5 g it is a substantial piece: our size guide suggests a 55 to 60 cm chain for a large cross, so it rests at mid-chest or lower, over a T-shirt or a henley. Choose a chain sturdy enough for its weight, around 2 mm or more.
The polished stainless steel can be worn every day, including in the shower. It is a fitting Father's Day or Christmas gift for someone with Irish or Scottish roots who already has a chain he likes.
Questions
Does it come with a chain?
No. It is sold as a pendant only, to hang on the chain of your choice.
What chain should I use with it?
Because it is large and weighs 28.5 g, pick a sturdy chain of about 2 mm or more, in 55 to 60 cm, so it hangs at mid-chest.
How large is the Boundless Knot compared with a typical cross pendant?
Large. At 49.5 x 54.5 mm (about 2 x 2.1 in) and 28.5 g it is almost as wide as it is tall, because the knotwork ring is wide, so it reads as a statement piece on the chest.
What does the knotwork mean?
The interlaced lines have no beginning and no end, which is why Celtic knotwork is often read as a picture of eternity.
Will dirt build up in the knotwork of the Boundless Knot?
A little, as in any detailed relief. Since the pendant is stainless steel and will not rust, you can rinse it with water, dry it and wipe the knots with the microfiber cloth included.
Is a Celtic cross only for Catholics?
No. It is used by Catholic, Anglican, Presbyterian and other Christians, especially those with Irish or Scottish heritage.
The prayer
Christ be with me, Christ within me, Christ behind me, Christ before me, Christ beside me, Christ to win me, Christ to comfort and restore me.
Saint Patrick's Breastplate, hymn translation by Cecil Frances Alexander (1889)

Its meaning
Knots with no loose end
Interlaced knotwork fills the pages of the great Irish gospel books, such as the Book of Kells, made around the year 800. The monks who drew them used lines that weave over and under and never stop, a pattern many Christians read as an image of eternity and of God's love without end. The Celtic cross joins this art to the Christian sign, with a ring around the meeting point of the arms. On this pendant, the knotwork runs through the arms and the ring alike. It comes as a pendant alone, in polished stainless...
Giving it as a gift
Father's Day is a good moment, especially for a dad who already has a chain he likes. At Christmas, it suits anyone with Irish or Scottish family who would rather wear Celtic art than a plain cross.
