Measure at home in 2 minutes
You need a strip of paper (or a string or shoelace), a pen and a ruler.
- Take a string or a shoelace and mark on it the length you are considering, for example 50 cm.
- Hold the two marks together at the back of your neck, wearing the kind of top you usually wear.
- Look in a mirror: the lowest point of the string is where the chain will sit.
- Too high or too low? Try 5 cm more or less: that is one size up or down.
Already own a chain you like? Lay it flat, clasp closed, and measure it end to end. A broad neck or chest makes every length sit a little higher.
No ruler? A bank card is 8.6 cm long: count how many fit along your strip.

How to wear it
This rosary is about 47 cm long and weighs about 42 g, so it fits in a jacket pocket, a bag or a small pouch, and rests easily on a nightstand. Hold the crucifix to begin, then let the 6 mm beads run between your fingers, one decade at a time.
Most Catholics carry a rosary rather than wear it around the neck. The beads and the crucifix should stay dry: keep it away from water and perfume, and store it on its own so the enamel does not scratch. It suits a confirmation, a godson, Father's Day or a family in mourning.
Questions
Can I wear a rosary as a necklace?
It is not recommended. Many Catholics see the rosary as a prayer tool rather than jewelry, so keep it in a pocket, in your hand or on a nightstand.
What are the beads made of?
Polished hematite beads of 6 mm on silver-tone links. The crucifix is alloy with a black enamel inlay.
How big is it?
About 47 cm long and 42 g. The crucifix measures 45 x 25 mm.
Do the 6 mm hematite beads of The Hematite Rosary need special care?
Only to stay dry. Wipe the beads, links and black enamel with a soft dry cloth rather than washing them.
Is it a good gift for a family in mourning?
Yes. Praying the rosary for someone who has died is an old Catholic custom, and a rosary is a quiet, lasting gift after a loss.
Should The Hematite Rosary be blessed before I pray with it?
That is a custom, not a requirement. The rosary arrives unblessed, and a priest or deacon can bless it, often after Mass.
The prayer
Crux sacra sit mihi lux, non draco sit mihi dux. Vade retro Satana, numquam suade mihi vana. Sunt mala quae libas, ipse venena bibas. (May the holy cross be my light; let not the dragon be my guide. Begone, Satan, never suggest vain things to me. What you offer is evil; drink the poison yourself.)

Its meaning
The rosary and the Saint Benedict crucifix
The rosary is prayed decade by decade: an Our Father, ten Hail Marys and a Glory Be, while meditating on a mystery in the lives of Jesus and Mary. Here the crucifix carries the Saint Benedict medal, with the cross and the letters C S P B, for Cross of the Holy Father Benedict, and the initials of his Latin prayer against evil, which begins Vade retro Satana. Catholics turn to it when they ask God's help against temptation. This full five-decade rosary has 6 mm polished hematite beads on silver-tone links, a 45 x...
Giving it as a gift
For a godson at his confirmation, a father on Father's Day, or a family in mourning who keep praying. Also a Christmas gift for anyone who prays the rosary every day.
