You need a strip of paper (or a string or shoelace), a pen and a ruler.
- Take a string or a shoelace and mark on it the length you are considering, for example 50 cm.
- Hold the two marks together at the back of your neck, wearing the kind of top you usually wear.
- Look in a mirror: the lowest point of the string is where the chain will sit.
- Too high or too low? Try 5 cm more or less: that is one size up or down.
Already own a chain you like? Lay it flat, clasp closed, and measure it end to end. A broad neck or chest makes every length sit a little higher.

How to wear it
The rosary is a 58 cm (22.8 in) loop of 10 mm beads, with two Jerusalem crosses of 3.5 x 4 cm. Slipped over the head, it falls around mid-chest with the cross hanging below, and it stands out over a plain sweater or a dark shirt. Many people simply keep it in a pocket and take it out to pray.

A large cross with a small cross in each of its four corners, five crosses in all. It has been the emblem of Jerusalem and of Holy Land pilgrims since the Middle Ages.
