Matthew 17:20

How to wear it

The face is a broad 19 mm round signet, with an aged finish that keeps every letter of the Saint Benedict medal readable. On a man's hand it looks right on the ring finger, the middle finger or the little finger. Sizes run from US 7 to US 15; a 19 mm face covers more of the finger, so go one size up if you are between two.

The 316 titanium steel can stay on in the shower, at the gym and at work. Silver suits a steel watch, gold tone warmer jewelry. It is a strong gift for a father, a godfather or a confirmation.

Questions

Is the 19 mm Sacred Signet available in large sizes?

Yes, up to US 15. It starts at US 7 (about 54.4 mm of finger circumference); because the face is 19 mm wide, choose the larger size if you are between two.

What is 316 titanium steel?

A grade of stainless steel used for jewelry that is worn every day. It does not rust and stays bright with normal wear.

Is the Benedict medal on The Sacred Signet a talisman?

No. The Church treats the Saint Benedict medal as a sacramental, a sign of faith and a reminder to pray, not an object with power of its own. The letters on the ring form a short prayer against evil.

Who was Saint Benedict?

An Italian monk of the sixth century who wrote the Rule followed by Benedictine monasteries. He is the patron saint of Europe.

Is The Sacred Signet a fitting gift for a young man confirmed under the name Benedict?

Yes, it is a natural choice if he took Benedict as his confirmation saint. Check his size first, since the 19 mm face is broad.

How is it packaged?

Each ring comes in its own protective bag, ready to give.

The prayer

Crux sacra sit mihi lux. Non draco sit mihi dux. (May the holy cross be my light. Let not the dragon be my guide.)

Latin verses on the Saint Benedict medal, found in a 1415 manuscript at Metten Abbey, Bavaria

The Sacred Signet

Its meaning

Every letter of the medal, on a ring

The reverse of the Saint Benedict medal is a puzzle of initials, and this signet reproduces it. The letters CSSML and NDSMD on the cross abbreviate "May the holy cross be my light, let not the dragon be my guide." Around the edge, VRSNSMV and SMQLIVB begin with "Vade retro Satana," a rejection of temptation. Pope Benedict XIV approved the medal in 1742, and the Jubilee design of 1880 fixed the form most often seen today. At 19 mm wide, with an aged finish that brings out the lettering, the face leaves room for every...
