Saint Christopher, protector of travelers
Tradition holds that Christopher, a man of great strength, carried travelers across a river, and that one day he bore a child whose weight grew heavier with every step: the child was Christ himself. From this story comes his name, Christ-bearer, and his place as patron of all who travel. Drivers, sailors and pilgrims have long asked for his prayers before setting out.
