Our Lady of Guadalupe and the crucifix
Our Lady of Guadalupe appeared to Saint Juan Diego at Tepeyac, near Mexico City, in 1531, and her image, framed in rays, remained on his cloak. The crucifix beside her shows Christ on the cross, the center of the faith she points to. Worn together, they recall Mary standing at the foot of the cross, as the Gospel of John tells (John 19:25). Many women wear the two as a daily sign of devotion. Here a small crucifix and an oval Guadalupe medal with a little rose, both edged with clear crystals, hang on a fine flat-link chain, in gold-tone alloy or gold and silver.
