Why wear the cross sideways
The sideways cross is a recent style, not an old form of the Christian sign. Jewelers began setting the cross horizontally into the chain so it lies flat along the collarbone instead of hanging below it. The meaning does not change with the angle. The first Christians often used quieter signs, like the fish or the anchor, and the cross only came fully into the open once the persecutions ended. Today it is worn openly, in every style.
