What early Christians wore on their rings
Around the year 200, Clement of Alexandria advised Christians on what to engrave on their signet rings: a dove, a fish, a ship, a lyre or an anchor. The cross was rarely shown openly in those early centuries. It became common in Christian art from the fourth century, and it is now the sign most believers choose for the hand.
