Measure at home in 2 minutes
You need a strip of paper (or a string or shoelace), a pen and a ruler.
- Take a string or a shoelace and mark on it the length you are considering, for example 20".
- Hold the two marks together at the back of your neck, wearing the kind of top you usually wear.
- Look in a mirror: the lowest point of the string is where the chain will sit.
- Too high or too low? Try 2" more or less: that is one size up or down.
Already own a chain you like? Lay it flat, clasp closed, and measure it end to end. A broad neck or chest makes every length sit a little higher.
No ruler? A bank card is 3.4" long: count how many fit along your strip.

How to wear it
This pendant shows Our Lady of Guadalupe in antique silver tone, with darkened recesses that make the stars, the rays and the angel stand out. It hangs on a simple ball chain, and reads well over a plain T-shirt, a white blouse or a dark sweater, where the relief catches the light.
The pendant is cast alloy, so keep it away from water, perfume and harsh products, and take it off before a shower or a swim to protect the antique finish. It suits a confirmation, Mother's Day, Father's Day, Christmas, or the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe on December 12.
Questions
When is the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe?
December 12. It is one of the most important days of the year in Mexico, and a natural moment to give this medal.
What is the pendant made of?
Cast alloy with an antique silver-tone finish. The darker recesses bring out the details of the image.
Will the darkened recesses of The Guadalupe Relief fade if it gets wet?
They can, over time. The antique silver tone is a finish on cast alloy, so water, soap and perfume slowly wear it; take the pendant off before showering or swimming.
Can a man wear a Guadalupe medal?
Yes. Many men wear Our Lady of Guadalupe, and the antique silver tone gives this one a sober look that suits a man as well as a woman.
Why is Our Lady of Guadalupe so important in Mexico?
She is the patroness of Mexico and of the Americas, and her image at the Basilica in Mexico City draws millions of pilgrims every year.
Should I have The Guadalupe Relief blessed before giving it for a confirmation?
It is up to you. The pendant arrives unblessed; having an image of Mary blessed is a common Catholic custom, not a requirement, and a priest or deacon can do it, often after Mass.
The prayer
Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thine intercession was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my mother; to thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me. Amen.
The Memorare, a traditional Marian prayer long attributed to Saint Bernard of Clairvaux

Its meaning
Our Lady of Guadalupe, patroness of the Americas
In December 1531, Mary appeared to Saint Juan Diego on the hill of Tepeyac, near Mexico City. Her image was found on his cloak, the tilma, still kept today in the Basilica of Guadalupe. She is shown with joined hands, a mantle of stars and a crown of rays, standing on the crescent moon held by an angel. Her feast falls on December 12, and many families keep her image at home and ask for her protection. This tall oval relief is cast in alloy with an antique silver-tone finish, its darkened recesses bringing out...
Giving it as a gift
For a godson or goddaughter at confirmation, or for a mother or father on Mother's Day, Father's Day or the feast of December 12. It suits anyone who keeps Our Lady of Guadalupe at home.
