A cross drawn with a single line
The first Christians rarely showed the cross in their art. On tombs and in the catacombs of Rome they drew a fish, an anchor or a shepherd carrying a lamb, signs a believer could read and an outsider might pass by. The cross became a common public image only from the fourth century, once the faith could be practiced openly. Since then it has been drawn in every way, from jeweled to bare. This open cuff keeps only the outline of the cross, a hollow shape in polished steel, silver or black, and slides onto the wrist without a clasp.
