The Miraculous Medal and the cross
In 1830, at the Rue du Bac in Paris, Mary appeared to Saint Catherine Labouré and asked that a medal be struck after the image she showed: Mary with rays of grace falling from her hands. The medal spread quickly and became known as the Miraculous Medal. The sideways cross at the other end of the bracelet keeps Christ beside His Mother.
