Saint Michael and the dragon
In the Book of Revelation, Michael and his angels fight against the dragon and cast him out of heaven (Revelation 12:7-9). This scene became the classic image of the archangel: winged, armed, standing over evil defeated. He is invoked as defender of the faithful and patron of those who protect others.
