The crucifix shows Christ on the cross, keeping the Passion and the love it reveals in view. Above him is the plaque INRI, the initials of the Latin Iesus Nazarenus Rex Iudaeorum, Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews, which Pilate had placed on the cross (John 19:19).
