To the first believers, the cross was a scandal, a Roman punishment for slaves and rebels. Saint Paul still made it the center of his preaching. We preach Christ crucified, he wrote to the Corinthians, and to the Galatians he said he would glory in nothing save the cross. The early Church took his words as its own, and the cross went from a mark of shame to the sign of the faith. This pendant keeps only the shape: two polished bars, beveled or cylindrical, about 3 by 1.8 cm, on a 60 cm box chain with a lobster clasp.
